A new flight is set to give autumn city breakers something to cheer about, including access to one of Europe’s most historical regions – with the added bonus of bargain pints too.
Wizz Air has this week announced it’s set to offer flights from Birmingham to Sibiu in Romania twice a week from October – and getting a beer in the culturally rich city will set tourists back just £1.85.
The Midlands hub has seen the Hungarian airline launch a raft of new flights from there, with four new routes on offer, including Italian city break favourite Rome.
October is a timely month to launch the Sibiu route too, for the city is in the heart of Transylvania, where Bram Stoker’s blood-thirsty Dracula resided.
Launching three days before Halloween, on October 28th, the route is set to start from £17.99 for a one-way ticket.
While Romania’s Transylvania region might be most famous as the home of the mythical Count, there‘s plenty of other attractions for tourists to sink their teeth into – with beautiful hiking, hearty food and picturesque towns and villages.
Indeed, King Charles loves the region so much that he owns a home there, and has been visiting the region to take a breather from royal life for decades.
The monarch secretly bought a run-down former farmhouse in Zalanpatak, close to the Carpathian Mountains, several years ago with the help of local landowner Count Kalnoky.
