More than one million phone chargers have been recalled following multiple reports of fires, injuries and explosions.
Anker has pulled its PowerCore 10000 power bank from Amazon, Newegg, and eBay after receiving 19 reports of fires and explosions, two minor burn injuries and 11 cases of property damage totaling over $60,700.
The malfunction affects units with model number ‘A1263’ and serial numbers beginning with ‘SN’ printed on the bottom.
These chargers were sold between June 2016 and December 2022, with prices starting at $25.99.
Anker stated that the faulty devices ‘may pose a fire safety risk due to a potential issue with the lithium-ion battery.’
‘This issue can cause the battery to overheat, leading to melting of plastic components, smoke, and fire hazards,’ the company added.
Consumers are advised to immediately stop using the product and to avoid disposing of it in regular trash.
Instead, they should send it to a facility that accepts discarded lithium batteries.

The Anker PowerCore 10000 is not the only charging device being recalled.
The US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) reported the 334 MagGo 10K battery, the 321 Power Bank (5K) and the 535 Power Bank (20K), are also subject to similar recalls.
The model numbers are as followed: A1642/A1647/A1652, A1112 and A1366.
Anker said it would replace the affected devices.
However, to receive a replacement, customers must submit a photo of their recalled power bank displaying the model number, serial number, their name, the date the photo was taken and the word ‘recalled’ written on the device in permanent marker.
Another charger was also recalled in the last month.

CPSC announced all Baseus 65W 30000mAh Portable Chargers throughout the US are at risk of bursting into flames.
In total, CPSC believes more than 55,000 of these chargers were sold.
There have been 72 reported incidents where the Baseus portable charger experienced ‘bulging,’ where the battery begins to swell up like a balloon before exploding in flames.
Bulging in lithium-ion batteries occurs when internal pressure builds up, causing the battery to deform.
It’s extremely dangerous because it can quickly lead to a fire, explosion, or leakage of hazardous materials inside the charger. Another four consumers reported actual fires that damaged their property.
