A travel expert has warned JoJo Siwa fans to avoid copying the star’s airport style.
After making headlines on Celebrity Big Brother earlier this year, the American singer and dancer was recently spotted travelling to Heathrow to surprise her boyfriend, former Love Island star Chris Hughes.
As JoJo wanted to travel under wraps in order to surprise Chris, she wore a pair of dark sunglasses and had her hood up.
The star shared some images of her incognito ensemble to her Snapchat account, revealing that she kept her sunglasses on during the journey.
But a travel expert has now explained why JoJo’s undercover outfit might not have been the best idea.
Amanda Parker, from online travel firm Netflights, says: ‘There are no rules against wearing hoods or sunglasses in airports – apart from in security zones, where they must be removed – but generally, it’s strongly discouraged when not necessary as it can raise suspicion, interfere with facial recognition technology and bring you unwanted attention.
‘Airports are high-security environments, so wearing a hoodie pulled tightly over your head with dark sunglasses indoors can make you stand out like a sore thumb and that’s not a good look.’
And, according to Amanda there’s no good reason to wear sunglasses at the airport.

‘Even if your intentions are harmless, like hiding your puffy eyes, dimming the room when hungover, or avoiding spoiling a surprise, as seen in JoJo’s case, this kind of appearance may look like you’re trying to avoid detection and can make you a target for airport security,’ she warns.
The expert adds that many airports use facial recognition technology at security and a hood may ‘obstruct the technology’s ability to match your face with your passport photo’.
Amanda adds: ‘If the system can’t make a proper match, you may be pulled aside for manual screening or experience delays in automated lanes.
‘If you’re trying to keep a low profile, ironically, covering your face can have the opposite effect. Your best option is to stay visibly and look approachable at all times.’
How to avoid getting noticed at the airport
Queue patiently – Netflights advises staying ‘calm and relaxed’ in queues at the airport.
Keep noise down – The experts suggest using headphones if you need to take a call or watch a video.
Wear appropriate clothing – Netflights recommends taking sunglasses off and wearing comfortable outfits that ‘doesn’t mask your identity unnecessarily’.
