Amazon Prime Day has finally arrived, and beauty lovers are flocking to their carts to buy the tons of products that are on sale, including the viral Dyson Airwrap, and its competitor, Shark Flexstyle.
The two tools achieve a similar result – a bouncy, freshly blow-dried look that can quickly be done from the comfort of your own home, without all that heat damage.
Both of these tools are significantly reduced for Prime Day, with the Dyson Airwrap Origin down from $499.99 to $399.99 and the Flexstyle getting a hefty discount of $120, making it $249.99.
And while both have gotten rave reviews on social media, it begs the question to potential customers – which one is a better buy?
As it turns out, you can’t really go wrong with either.
The Dyson Airwrap, which won the 2024 Allure Best of Beauty Award, is a tool that comes with various attachments that you can use to create different hairstyles.
You can have a straight blowout, bouncy curls, beachy waves or a sleek look in just a matter of minutes.
With the Airwrap Origin, the model on sale, you get a round volumizing brush, a smoothing dryer, and a 1.2 inch barrel for curling.
Many have reported that the Dyson takes only 15 to 20 minutes to get your hair dry, which is significantly less than a traditional blow dryer.
It’s been touted and used by A-listers Khloé Kardashian and Lindsay Lohan, who told Allure in 2023 that the product is ‘really nice’ and ‘easy.’
YouTuber Chloe Wen gushed that the Dyson Airwrap gives a really ‘unique,’ glamorous curl to the hair, especially when she reaches for the smaller barrel.
She said that after using the product for one year, she’s had ‘zero’ problems and complaints with the product, and has been super happy with the final result each time she uses it on her hair.
But don’t just take her word for it – on Reddit, many beauty fanatics have raved about how much they love the Dyson Airwrap, praising it for being easy-to-use for beginners and versatility.
‘This is the first and only hair tool I’ve ever been able to figure out how to use successfully. And I’ll buy another one the minute it dies lol,’ one person admitted in a Reddit thread this year.
Another seconded, ‘I love it. I feel like its a good investment. Aside from the styling, the hair brush attachment smoothes my hair shaft and makes it feel better than just air drying or using a regular dryer.’
‘Team Dyson. I’ve had my air wrap for two plus years and I use it almost everyday. It’s super fast and convenient. My hair is super long tho, down to my butt so the air wrap is literally a breeze to use,’ someone else shared online.

However, some noted that the Dyson will work better for those who have the kind of hair that holds a curl well.
In comparison, many have also raved about the Shark Flexstyle, which is significantly cheaper than the Dyson.
The Shark model on sale comes with six different attachments – two 1.25″ auto-wrap curlers, oval brush, paddle brush, curl-defining diffuser and a styling concentrator.
Similarly to the Dyson, you can use the tool and its attachments to try out all different types of hairstyles, whether that’s curly, wavy or straight.
Celebrity hairstylist Glen Coco, who is the mastermind behind Sydney Sweeney and Kourtney Kardashian Barker’s hair, is a big fan of the Shark.
‘It’s really for all hair types,’ Coco recently explained to InStyle Australia.

‘It’s amazing for people that have textured hair that want to smooth out and also diffuse. But then you can also do round brush blowouts,’ Coco continued.
‘I’ve never heard anyone say that they’ve had a tough time using it. I think obviously with any new tool, there’s a learning curve that has to take place,’ he added.
‘But what’s great about it is, as you experiment, you realize which one is best for your hair type and it can be a really fun tool to play around with.’
On the Sephora subreddit page, other Shark Beauty users seemed to agree with the celebrity stylist’s sentiments.
‘I looked at all options for months and ended up with the Shark Speedstyle and love it. Fast and not too heavy/big or complicated to hold,’ one person wrote.
The Shark Speedstyle, also on sale, comes with 3 styling tools and is best for straight and wavy hair.
‘Highly recommend! Great for blowouts, yes it’s loud but it’s worth it. Dries my hair in half the time. It took me a while to figure out how to use the airwrap barrel attachments so that my hair would actually hold the curl. The key is to put a little bit of product in your hair like mousse or styling cream. I also found my curls held better with the .95′ airwrap barrels. I have medium wavy/curly hair that’s in the frizzy side,’ someone else shared.
‘I love it. I use it every 3-4 days for a blow out and barely touch my hair again. I blow it out and leave so I don’t need to do any other maintenance unless say I’m curling it for a special occasion or whatever,’ another raved.
However, one important factor to note when considering the Shark is that many find the tool to be quite loud.
At the end of the day, it seems like both the Shark and Dyson are great options that achieve similar end results for your hair.
If you’re on a budget, you may want to go with the Shark, and if you’re looking for a more prestigious brand, you may want to opt for the Dyson.
