A frantic underwater search is underway after a tractor-trailer went off the Delaware Memorial Bridge and into the river.
The single tractor-truck, without a trailer, ran off the bridge as it traveled southbound and plunged into the water at around 3.40am Friday.
It reportedly crossed three lanes of traffic before it crashed onto a concrete pad and through a concrete wall, falling into the Delaware River.
The truck and driver have not been found as of 9am EST, according to Wilmington officials.
It’s not clear if anyone else was in the truck when it smashed through the barrier and plunged into the river.
Police said they have video evidence of the moment the vehicle went into the river, but are yet to share it.
‘Only two center lanes are open on the DE bound span. Significant delays. Please allow for extra travel time & please drive safely,’ officials said on X.
