Lil Nas X’s family and friends are desperately hoping to get the rapper and singer help after his disturbing public meltdown in the early hours of Thursday morning.
Speaking exclusively to the Daily Mail, a source said the 26-year-old rapper’s family members are hoping to ‘stage an intervention,’ as they worry that some of his seedy friends may be exploiting him financially and leading him down a dangerous path.
The Daily Mail has contacted representatives for Lil Nas X for comment but has not yet received a response.
The pop star put on a disturbing display when he was arrested for battery on a police officer and was seen walking down the middle of a street in Los Angeles in nothing but white underwear and matching cowboy boots.
Lil Nas X — whose real name is Montero Lamar Hill — allegedly charged at officers responding to the scene shortly after 6am, before he was taken to a hospital and placed under arrest.
According to the insider, Hill is in an uncertain position, with figures he grew up with that he doesn’t trust and newer associates who may not have his best interests at heart.

‘Nas doesn’t feel that he can trust many people from his past because they tried to exploit him financially,’ the insider said. ‘But some of those people suspect his new friends can’t be trusted either.
‘He’s been hanging around some seedy characters in LA who some people suspect have been leeching off him and living in his house,’ they continued.
The source says Hill’s ‘family wants to step in and support him’ amid their fears that he may have been exploited.
They also referenced commercial pressures that have allegedly weighed on the Old Town Road rapper.
‘His career has been going downhill for a while and it has affected him,’ the insider says.
Another star who was once beloved by fans before his career took a tragic turn has allegedly made Hill’s family members determined to prevent him from suffering a similar fate.
‘Some of them are worried he’ll be exploited like Matthew Perry if he doesn’t receive help,’ the insider said.
Perry, who was beloved for his star-making turn on the iconic sitcom Friends, died in October 2023 at 54 after he was found unresponsive in a jacuzzi at his home.

An autopsy report later determined he had died from the acute effects of the drug ketamine, while drowning, coronary artery disease and the effects of the drug buprenorphine were listed as contributing but not immediate factors in his death.
Investigators later determined that doctors had been inappropriately supplying Perry with inappropriate levels of ketamine, an anesthetic that has in recent years found new use in lower doses as an option for treatment-resistant depression.
The Montero (Call Me By Your Name) performer has had a complicated public relationship with his family in the past.
In 2021, a video showing a woman who was allegedly Hill’s mother, Shawnita Hathaway, standing on a street corner with a sign begging for food was shared widely on social media.
In the aftermath, Lil Nas X’s fans took him to task for allegedly not helping his mother while she was in dire straits.
In a tweet that was swiftly deleted, Hill responded to the controversy: ‘I hate speaking on my personal life, but y’all n****s don’t know how many nights I’ve cried myself to sleep feeling guilty because nothing i tried would help my mom.’
He added: ‘Paint me as the bad guy all you want, but at the end of the day, you don’t know me outside of this internet s***.’
Hill’s father, the gospel singer Robert L. Stafford, later defended his son in an Instagram post featuring a photo of the rapper embracing both parents.

Lil Nas X was blasted by fans after a video of a woman who was allegedly his mother begging on a street corner went viral. But his father defended him, and the rapper previously said his mother has struggled with addiction; seen in June 2024 in Beverly Hills
‘Despite what people say @lilnasx is the greatest kid a parent can be BLESSED with,’ Stafford declared. ‘Although his mom is in a struggle with an addiction she’s STILL a QUEEN and he goes through great lengths to make sure we’re taking care of.
‘Those who have family members and friends dealing with addiction understands that there ain’t enough money you can throw at this situation to make it right,’ he continued. ‘I dont usually address personal issues publicly but felt like this need to be.’
Hill previously said in a 2020 Variety profile that his mother was ‘an addict,’ adding that they ‘don’t have the closest relationship.’
‘Even trying to get her better — things didn’t quite work out. But there’s still love…’ he said at the time.
Earlier on Thursday, Lil Nas X was arrested for battery on a police officer after he was seen walking in the middle of the street early in the morning while clad in nothing but white briefs and cowboy boots, which resulted in him being taken to the hospital for a possible overdose.
Hill was spotted exhibiting erratic behavior as he walked down Ventura Boulevard on Thursday, singing, talking repeatedly about a party, and striking poses, before he allegedly charged at officers who were responding to the scene just before 6 a.m.
The Los Angeles Police Department confirmed with the Daily Mail that the musician was taken to the hospital and placed under arrest for battery on a police officer.
Officer Cervantes of the Los Angeles Police Department told the Daily Mail of the incident: ‘This morning, around 5:50 a.m., officers responded to the 11000 block of Ventura Bl for a nude man walking in the street. Upon arrival, the suspect charged at officers and was taken into custody.

He even places an orange traffic cone over his head.
‘Hey, don’t be late to the party tonight,’ Lil Nas X tells the person behind the camera. ‘You know where it’s at,’ he adds.
‘Go ahead babe,’ he urges the driver, waving his hand towards the road. ‘Go ahead babe,’ he repeats.
‘Didn’t I tell you to put the phone down?’ he later asks. ‘Uh-oh, somebody’s going to have to pay for that!’
He then began to walk down the street, snap his fingers into the air and clap his hands.

He is also shown saying: ‘It’s going to be a beautiful sunrise,’ before stretching out his hand.
‘Give me that phone so I can throw it. I’m going to throw it far away so you never see it again. I don’t like phones.
‘Don’t miss the party tonight! Why are you still here? You need to be telling everybody about the f**king party girl, what’s your problem?’
That same day the musician posted a slew of content to his Instagram account, seemingly taken at his home.
In one video, a bathrobe-clad Lil Nas X sang and played with a tambourine beside a pile of various items.
‘FREE THE PEOPLE! NOW!’ he captioned the post.
He also captioned a selfie of himself wearing a fur coat with a tiara-accessorised cowboy hat: ‘OH NO sHES GONE MAD! CRAZY I TELL U!’

Lil Nas X has previously described experimenting with drugs, and in 2021 spoke to WSJ about trying psychedelic mushrooms for the first time while working on his debut album MONTERO.
The rapper was travellng through California at the time with producers Denzel Baptiste and David Biral, who both remained sober during the experience.
They sat by his side and chatted with him during the day, which saw them relax in the pool and hot tub, reflecting on life.
‘I was able to open up a lot,’ he told WSJ about the trip in 2021. ‘I was able to write actual stories about my life and put it into my music. I actually did that for the first time.’
Lil Nas X also told Variety in 2020 that he dealt with several heartbreaking losses – including the death of his grandmother – by ‘smoking [weed] heavily’.
‘But then I started feeling more connected with the universe, and taking everything as a sign.’
The latest incident comes four months after Lil Nas X was hospitalised for partial facial paralysis.
The rapper, who was wearing a hospital gown and a Von Dutch baseball cap, posted a video from his bed where he explained what had been going on.

The rapper won two Grammy Awards for Old Town Road in 2020
In the clip Lil Nas was seemingly in good spirits as he laughed and revealed that he ‘lost control’ of the right side of his face.
Despite trying to laugh, the right side of his face stayed frozen and expressionless, though he was still able to move the right side of his lips and eye.
Explaining more about his condition, the American star said: ‘This is me doing a full smile right now by the way. It’s like, what the f***? Bro, I can’t even laugh right now, bro. What the f***? Ah! Oh my God!’
Hours after the post, the Old Town Road hitmaker later showed both sides of his face and said: ‘We normal over here. We get crazy over here.’
He added: ‘I’m so cooked’, which in the context of modern slang means that someone is feeling extremely tired, exhausted, or struggling with a task or situation.
In another post, the rapper clarified to his fans that he is ‘OK’ and asked them not to worry about him.
He said: ‘Guys I am OK!! Stop being sad for me! Shake Ur a** for me instead! [sic]’
This was followed with a selfie he took in hospital which he captioned: ‘Imma look funny for a lil but but that’s it [sic].’
