Bears quarterback Tyson Bagent capped off a fairytale week by orchestrating a brilliant late comeback against the Kansas City Chiefs on Friday night.
Just 48 hours before Chicago’s preseason finale at Arrowhead, Bagent broke down in tears at an emotional press conference to mark his new contract.
The Bears handed their backup to Caleb Williams a two-year contract extension through the 2027 season. Bagent’s new deal is worth $10million but could go as high as $16m if incentives are reached.
He was overcome with emotion in front of the cameras but, on Friday night, Bagent kept his cool to lead the Bears to victory with a 17-point comeback in the fourth quarter.
The quarterback led three straight scoring drives in the final 15 minutes to give Chicago a dramatic 29-27 victory over Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce and Co.
The Bears took the ball for the final time with no timeouts left, just 1:29 on the clock and 87 yards separating Bagent and the end zone.

But the quarterback led Chicago from one end to the other, combining three times with rookie receiver Jahdae Walker. They both went undrafted after playing Division-II college football.
‘Tyson trusts me and I trust Tyson. We’ve always had a good bond because we both came from D-II, so we know the struggle, and we know the grind,’ Walker said.
‘We already had that connection, so that’s my guy. We’ve got great chemistry. And I just want it to keep building.’
Walker added: ‘You could just tell how poised he was and how ready he was for the moment. He deserves everything that’s coming his way.’
Bagent played the entire second half against the Chiefs, with the Bears trailing 20-10 when he took over from Williams. Bagent went on to complete 20 of 28 passes for 212 yards.
A week ago, he also led three consecutive touchdown drives against the Bills at Soldier Field.
Earlier this week Bagent, who grew up in Martinsburg, West Virginia, told reporters that his father dealt with major struggles as a child.
A teary-eyed Bagent, 25, said: ‘My dad is my right-hand man. He didn’t even have running water until he was in high school.
‘There are definitely a lot of things and people that I think I could certainly help with this gift I’ve been blessed with.

Bagent detailed his family’s financial struggles after earning a two-year, $10m NFL contract
‘I don’t really know anybody back at home with any money so it feels good. It’s certainly a weight off my shoulders and my family’s shoulders and it definitely means a lot.’
Bagent played in four games and threw two passes last season with Williams starting every game after being drafted with the No 1 overall pick.
He went undrafted in 2023 following a record-setting career at Division II powerhouse Shepherd University but Bears head coach Ben Johnson said: ‘I’ve really been blown away by his approach from the spring to start of camp to where we are now.
‘He does a tremendous job knowing what to do, how to do it and getting it done. So I don’t think you can have enough talent in that room. I think we actually have one of the best rooms in the NFL, certainly that I’ve been around in my career from top to bottom.’
