DR Pepper’s owner is buying a European coffee company for £13billion as it plans to take on Nestle.
Keurig Dr Pepper’s takeover of JDE Peet’s will lead to the break-up of the US firm into a soft drinks group and a coffee specialist.
The coffee arm would be on a similar scale to market leader Nestle.
The deal comes amid record high prices for global coffee, driven by droughts in top producers Brazil and Vietnam.
Donald Trump’s decision to impose 50 per cent duties on beans imported to the US from Brazil has also affected prices.
