Gordon Ramsay has revealed the best way to cook a burger while also sharing the common ingredient he would never pair with his patty.
In doing so, the celebrity chef finally settled the age-old debate about whether burgers should be cooked rare, medium or well done.
He explained that there is a simple method any home cook can master that will result in a ‘perfect’ patty every time.
Gordon said that a fried egg is an ‘underrated’ burger addition, but he’s not a fan of something most people love to include in their takeaway orders – cheese.
He also revealed the one very popular household appliance he wants to ban from his kitchen – if his kids will let him.
The 58-year-old explained that to cook a banging burger at home, you need to sear it on each side for two minutes.
‘If you cook an average-sized burger, it will need to be cooked two minutes each side for what I believe to be the perfect cook,’ he said.
‘Of course, people absolutely can have a personal preference for a burger that is more well done, medium or medium rare.’

Gordon added that while he doesn’t like cheese on his burgers, there is a way to achieve a chef-quality melt if you so wish.
‘Honestly, I’m not the greatest fan of cheese on a burger, I get it that people love it, but that’s not my go-to topping,’ he said.
He said once the meat is cooked, turn off the heat, add the cheese on top of the patty, then put a lid on the pan and let the residual heat do the work.
‘By the time you’ve assembled your burger, the cheese will be melted. Absolutely always rest your burger!’ he said.
Rather than cheese, however, Gordon said he loves a fried egg on his burgers, dubbing it an ‘underrated’ ingredient.
‘It’s so much better than cheese, the oozy texture and flavour is really delicious!’ he said.
Another thing Gordon isn’t a fan of in the kitchen is the humble air fryer.
‘These things are ridiculous, and I don’t have time for them at all,’ he complained.

‘However, with a lot of grown-up children and their partners in the house, the girls love cooking with the air fryer, so sadly for me, it’s not completely banished!’
Gordon’s confessions come as Burger King releases its newest menu item, The Waygu, backed by the chef himself.
He said he ‘wishes’ he created the £11 burger that has onions cooked in three different ways, rocket and a patty of British wagyu beef in a brioche bun.
While he has a breadth of experience in fine dining, Gordon added that it was a ‘myth’ that all fast food is junk food and his takeaway ‘pet peeve’ is when kitchens ‘cut corners on quality’.
‘That’s not true. I am a fan of food that is good quality and well-sourced,’ he said.
‘If you’re going to serve a burger, make sure it’s done properly – great beef, great build, great flavour.’
