Marks & Spencer has left shoppers divided after unveiling a very controversial new product that has left foodies floundering.
The British supermarket has announced the release of dozens of tasty new items ahead of the festive period.
As of today, M&S will be busy restocking the shelves with more than 400 new items, including some new and improved favourites.
But shoppers were left scratching their heads over one new creation – a Marmite infused caramel spread.
Described as a ‘bold blend’ that combines sweet caramel with divisive Marmite, the spread boasts a ‘umami-laced sauce that’s full of character’.
The new release has left people divided. An Instagram account called NewFoodsUK took to social media to share a picture of the release and has since amassed dozens of comments from both lovers and loathers.
‘Amazing, basically miso caramel,’ one keen foodie wrote. Echoing the sentiment, a second said: ‘What the f**k this sounds delicious’.
But many are unconvinced by the new offering, with some calling it ‘repulsive’ and an ‘abomination’.

‘Eww! Salted caramel yes but not beefy salt and I love Marmite,’ one remarked. ‘I love Marmite but this is repulsive,’ another person wrote.
‘We seriously need to stop adding Marmite to everything now,’ a frustrated shopper said.
‘I’m not sure what to make of this. I mean caramel sauce, like. Marmite, like but together…,’ said another.
Available in 310g squeezy containers, the surprising concoction will hit shelves on 10 September, costing £3.
A description of the new spread reads: ‘Sweet meets savoury in our Caramel Sauce & Marmite spread – a bold blend of smooth caramel and Marmite®. The result is a rich, umami-laced sauce that’s full of character. Drizzle over ice cream or dip in churros for a twist that’s not for the faint-hearted.’
A spokesperson for M&S told Metro: ‘Whether you love it or hate it, you have to try it. Trust us, it works. Drizzle over toast, waffles or croissants – your brunch game is about to be taken next level.’
The yeast extract spread has also made its way to the M&S bakery section, with the release of Pecan and Salted Caramel Blondies containing a hint of Marmite, costing £5.
The salty bakes include a pecan tiffin laced with Marmite, accompanied by decadent white chocolate and a drizzle of salted caramel sauce.

Among other items added to the supermarket’s food range for the festive season are Peppermint Bark (£10), Peanut Butter Reindeer (£1), Shortbread Christmas Trees (£1.65), Chocolate and Cinnamon Tortilla Rolls (£3), and Maple Bacon Combo Mix crisps (£2.30).
Additionally, the supermarket are re-releasing their internet-loved Gingerbread and White Chocolate cookies.
Last year, the festive biscuit took social media by storm, with sweet-toothed shoppers calling it ‘phenomenal’, ‘dreamy’ and ‘amazing’.
It comes shortly after the supermarket announced they were debuted a unique Australian cake.
Earlier this year, it introduced Lamington cakes, making it the first on the British high street to do so.
The national treat is uniquely Australian and holds icon status in the Land Down Under, but is only available at a handful of specialist bakeries in the UK.
That is, until now, as M&S has made two variations of the cube-shaped cakes available on their shelves from today.
Australian customers will be thrilled that they can get their hands on the classic Chocolate and Coconut Lamington, a buttermilk-enriched chocolate sponge coated in chocolate sauce and then rolled in coconut flakes.
Hand-piped jam and buttercream sit atop the little square cake to make it a beauty to look at and eat.
M&S is also giving shoppers a trendy treat by creating a Caramelised Biscuit Lamington, a major twist on the classic.
The Caramelised Biscuit Lamington comprises of rich chocolate sponge rolled in caramelised biscuit crumb and finished with hand-piped buttercream and salted caramel sauce.
This version of a Lamington was first launched by Australian supermarket Woolworths in July and went viral on social media.
Australian TikTok users flocked to Woolworths to get their hands on the caramelised biscuit Lamingtons, which were only available for the month of July.
They described the cakes as being ‘incredible’ and ‘the best non-traditional Lamingtons I’ve ever had’.
Now, Australians living in the UK and Britons alike will be able to sample this alternative take on the beloved cake thanks to M&S.
The indulgent cakes cost £4 for a pack of two, making them perfect for sharing (if you were so inclined).
