College football fans have been left concerned after a field storm involving thousands of supporters took place on Friday night.
What was set out to be a historic night for the Virginia Cavaliers – after they beat No. 8 ranked Florida state 46-38 in overtime – ended up being marred by the incident.
In the final seconds of the game, FSU had one final chance to level the score but QB Thomas Castellanos saw his pass intercepted by Virginia’s Ja’Son Prevard.
The catch meant that the historic win was sealed and, almost immediately, there were thousands of fans on the field celebrating the win.
A clip of the incident, which has gone viral, showed the thousands of Virginia fans lined up on the touchline and waiting for the game to be over.
Once Prevard made the catch, the fans stormed onto the field. The Cavaliers star and one of his teammates were seen taking cover on the floor as it happened.

Fans – including Dave Portnoy – were left concerned over the players stood in the endzone
Similarly, one FSU wide receiver, who was the intended recipient of the throw, was next to Prevard after the catch was made and quickly got consumed by the crowd.
Another fan wrote: ‘Did that FSU receiver in the endzone survive that?’
‘Someone should check on those players in the endzone,’ another said.
The footage also showed a number of Prevard’s teammates attempting to reach him after making the catch but were prevented by the swarms of people running on.
Broadcast cameras then cut to another angle from inside Scott Stadium, which showed the thousands of fans in the middle of the field as they celebrated.
While there was plenty of concern, some fans saw it differently. Others suggested it was the ‘smoothest’ field storm in history.
During the game, there was hardly anything to separate the two sides. After being level at half-time and then full-time, the game was sent to overtime.
Virginia QB Chandler Morris got the all-important touchdown after scrambling for four yards – before orchestrating the two-point conversion shortly afterwards.
