US Singer Teddy Swims took the stage for the NRL Grand Final performance at Accor Stadium on Sunday to very mixed reviews from viewers.
While some felt the performer did a great job, others were left confused by his setlist and choice to wear a traditional Scottish kilt on stage.
The hitmaker, 33, ran through a short set that included his hits The Door and Lose Control, as well as a cover the AC/DC classic TNT.
Aussie viewers had bold thoughts on the performance from the Grammy-nominated singer, with some calling it ‘horrendous’ and others comparing it to the infamously disastrous gig played by Meat Loaf at the 2011 AFL Grand Final.
‘Meat Loaf was better in the AFL Grand Final than this. Dudes got a great voice, but this sucks,’ wrote one person on X.
‘Okay I’ll start. Wtf is this s**t?’ asked one viewer, with another chiming in, ‘Teddy Swims is horrendous.’
The Atlanta native has been riding high on the success of his viral ballad Lose Control, which has dominated charts worldwide and turned him into one of music’s most sought-after performers.
It comes after the performer cancelled multiple shows due to ill health.
He was forced to pull out of recent concerts in Hawaii after losing his voice in the middle of a performance.
‘Honolulu, I’m so sorry to let you know that both tonight’s show (Saturday, September 27th) and tomorrow’s (Sunday, September 28th) rescheduled performance will not be taking place,’ the artist, whose birth name is Jaten Dimsdale, said on his Instagram.
‘My doctor has not cleared me to sing. I need a little time to recover before I can give you the show you deserve.’
However, his health problem has now cleared up, according to NRL CEO Andrew Abdo.
