A 14-year-old boy suspected of shooting six teens in a city centre sent a chilling text to his social worker after carrying out the attack.
The teenager reportedly sent the message, reading: ‘Check the news hehe’, before he was reported missing hours after the shooting in Gavle, Sweden, on Saturday.
Local media reports claim the suspected shooter was already on the police’s radar and that he did not want to reveal his plans on Saturday to social services after they reached out following concerns he was hanging out in the wrong circles and that he would commit an act of violence.
Gunfire broke out at around 2am in the Soder area of the port city which is lined with bars and restaurants, sparking a huge emergency response.
Photos from the scene showed police swarming the city centre and cordoning off the street as victims were carried to ambulances.
Witnesses have said the gunman fired his pistol at close range straight into a crowd of people standing outside some restaurants on Sodra Kungsgatan, Expressen reports.
The teenager was arrested shortly after the shooting, near the crime scene. He was quizzed over the incident by police over the weekend.
The victims are not believed to have been intended targets, and according to the investigation, the shooting is suspected to be gang related, as per Expressen.
