Sony Pictures announced Monday that it had officially greenlit Jumanji 3 for a December 11, 2026 release date.
Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson, Kevin Hart, Jack Black, and Karen Gillan are all ‘in talks’ to reprise their video game characters in the adventure action three-quel, which will also likely have director Jake Kasdan back at the helm – according to Deadline.
On October 16, The Rock – who plays Dr. Xander ‘Smolder’ Bravestone – ‘broke bread’ over dinner with Jumanji 3 producer Hiram Garcia (the brother of his ex-wife Dany Garcia who’s also producing Jumanji 3).
On September 10, Karen – who plays Ruby Roundhouse – announced she and her husband of two years, Nick Kocher, were expecting their first child.
‘[Dwayne and I] are talking about, of course, another Jumanji. That’s been a conversation,’ Kevin – who plays Franklin ‘Mouse’ Finbar – confirmed to Variety last year.

‘And just figuring out what would or could be in the final chapter. He and I, we feel like we need something big to put our duo to like [a fitting] end. And not just leave it undone. Like something that we can say will be our last or final movie or franchise.’
Meanwhile, Jack – who plays Professor Sheldon ‘Shelly’ Oberon – has kept a low profile since announcing a hiatus from his Tenacious D bandmate Kyle Gass on July 14 over his remarks about former President Donald Trump’s assassination attempt.
Gass was celebrating his 64th birthday onstage the ICC Sydney Theatre in Australia and Black asked him to ‘make a wish’ on his lit candles, and he replied: ‘Don’t miss Trump next time.’
‘I was blindsided by what was said at the show on Sunday,’ the 55-year-old Emmy winner said in a statement at the time.
‘I would never condone hate speech or encourage political violence in any form. After much reflection, I no longer feel it is appropriate to continue the Tenacious D tour, and all future creative plans are on hold.’
It’s unclear if the same cast of video game-playing ‘teenagers’ – Alex Wolff, Ser’Darius Blain, Madison Iseman, and Morgan Turner – have aged out and will be replaced with fresh faces.
Jumanji 3 will technically be the fifth film in the $2.1B-grossing franchise.
It all started in 1981 with Chris Van Allsburg’s picture book Jumanji, which Joe Johnston adapted into the $65M-budget fantasy starring Robin Williams in 1995 that wound up earning $262.8M at the global box office despite dismal reviews.

In 2005, Jon Favreau directed the critically-acclaimed sci-fi sequel Zathura: A Space Adventure (penned by Van Allsburg) starring Dax Shepard, which broke even with $65.1M gross at the box office.
12 years later, Kasdan rebooted the adventure franchise with the $90M-budget Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle starring the current cast, which earned good reviews and amassed an eye-popping $962.5M at the box office.
The 50-year-old filmmaker returned to direct the 2019 sequel Jumanji: The Next Level, which scored slightly worse reviews and earned slightly less with $801.7M8 off a $132M budget.
