From Garmin trackers to Oura rings, fitness influencers regularly flaunt high–tech gadgets to their followers online.
Now, a brand new device has been unveiled through a collaboration between Meta and Oakley – and it’s set to become the must–have gizmo for social media–obsessed creators.
The Oakley Meta Vanguard is a new line of AI sports glasses that is ‘designed to give athletes a competitive edge’.
At first glance, the futuristic gadget looks like any other sports glasses, with a wraparound design and reflective lenses.
However, upon closer inspection, you’ll notice a small camera hidden in the centre of the glasses, allowing wearers to capture their workouts completely hands–free.
What’s more, the arms of the glasses feature open–ear speakers, with enough battery life for six hours of continuous playback – plenty of time for most people to complete a marathon.
Unsurprisingly, the Oakley Meta Vanguard comes with a hefty price–tag.
Fitness influencers hoping to get their hands on them will be forced to splash out £499/$499 – almost twice the price of Oakley’s most expensive sports sunglasses!

The new glasses were announced by Meta CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, at the Meta Connect event this evening.
‘Together with Oakley, we’re excited to announce Oakley Meta Vanguard and welcome the world to the era of Athletic Intelligence — amplifying performance to help you push past limits in the moments that matter most,’ Meta said.
Like most of Oakley’s existing sports glasses, the Oakley Meta Vanguard feature a wraparound design using Oakley’s PRIZM Lens technology, which is designed to block out sun, wind and dust.
The middle of the lens features a small 12MP camera with a 122–degree wide–angle lens.
Simply using the command ‘Hey Meta’, wearers can immediately capture first–person footage, with the options for Slow Motion or Hyperlapse.
‘Imagine going down the slopes, finally nailing that trick you’ve been practicing, and capturing it all in slow motion,’ Meta said.
The arms feature open–ear speakers which point directly into your ears, allowing you to listen to music while you exercise, as well as a five–microphone array so you can take calls or speak to Meta AI.
With all this hardware, you’d think the glasses would be very heavy.

‘They feature Oakley’s Three–Point Fit system and come with three replaceable nose pads including a low– and high–bridge fit for a secure and customized feel,’ Meta added.
What really sets these glasses apart, however, is the integration with Garmin and Strava, via the Meta AI app.
If you have a Garmin device, you’ll be able to ask Meta AI for updates or specific stats in real–time.
For example, you could say ‘Hey Meta, what’s my heartrate?’, or ‘Hey Meta, how’s my pace?’ and you’ll be read your stats almost immediately.
Alternatively, if you’re a Strava users, you’ll be able to graphically overlay your performance metrics over videos and photos captured on the glasses.
In terms of colours, users can choose between four frame and lens combos.
There’s a black frame with gold lenses, a white frame with black lenses, a black frame with orange/pink lenses, or a white frame with sapphire blue lenses.
