A flight attendant has shared advice on getting a free first-class upgrade.
Cierra Mistt has dished out her top insider tips to travellers seeking more luxurious flights.
‘There’s actually so many ways to get free upgrades that I can’t include all of them in this one video,’ Cierra explained in a video.
The travel expert, @cierra_mistt on social media, said: ‘I’m going to start off with the easiest ways possible.
‘During holiday season flights can be so booked up that airlines can offer people thousands just to take a later flight.
‘That being said, if you don’t have somewhere to be right then and there, you can easily negotiate a lot more out of those gate agents – especially if you’re really nice to them, and bring them things like chocolate and Starbucks gift cards.
‘You can get incentives like a hotel for the night while you wait for your next flight, free food – and, yes, free upgrades to first class.’
Cierra went on to reveal another ‘easy’ trick she’s ‘seen work thousands of times’.

She added: ‘If you’re what we call an able-bodied person, like a firefighter, police officer, doctor, nurse – basically somebody who could react accordingly if we did have an emergency on board – all you have to do is simply let the gate agent know before you board.
‘The agents will make note of that and if not upgrade you to first class, at the bare minimum they will put you in an exit row, which does have a lot more legroom and a lot more space to relax.
‘Just know that in an emergency, you will have to help us.’
In another Instagram video, she shares more tips – including booking in the back row.
Cierra explains that if a plane isn’t full, staff often move passengers around to redistribute weight. Normally, she says, they are moved from back to front.
So sitting at the very back of the plane could see you moved all the way forward – to first-class seats.
Another handy trick is for full flights.
Cierra says: ‘If gate agents announce your flight is full and ask for volunteers to take a later flight, listen out.’

They will normally offer something in exchange, but Cierra says not to accept. She maps out what to do instead.
Cierra explains: ‘First, go to the gate agent. Second, give them a price and say that you want that in cash.
‘Last but not least, when the gate agent is rebooking you for that next flight, make sure that they put you in first class, to compensate for your time that you’re losing because you had to get kicked from that flight. Over 99 per cent of the time, this works.’
Viewers were quick to thank Cierra for her top tips, with many taking to the comments to praise her advice.
