A British woman been arrested on suspicion of strangling her female friend to death with a vacuum cleaner cable during an argument while the pair were on holiday in Benidorm.
Police rushed round to the apartment where the row took place but it was too late and the victim, a 66-year-old from the UK, was already dead by the time they arrived.
The alleged killer, 64, is understood to have confessed to the murder after she was taken away from the scene by cops.
Local reports said the dead woman was found with the vacuum cable still round her neck.
An initial post-mortem has confirmed she was strangled.
It is not yet clear when the suspect, who has not been named, will be hauled before a judge.
A spokesman for National Police, confirming the arrest, said today: ‘A woman aged 64 has been arrested on suspicion of killing another 66-year-old woman, both from the UK.
‘The investigation is ongoing and at the moment we can’t give out any more information.’

The horrific crime happened in an apartment in Benidorm’s so-called Little England area.
The flat is in a private residential gated estate which is said to be extremely popular with British expats and tourists.
The nature of the relationship between the alleged killer and her suspected victim is not yet known.
The nationality of a female witness, the third friend who dialed 999 to alert the emergency services, has not yet been revealed.
Before being taken to a police station the woman arrested on suspicion of homicide was taken to a health centre in Benidorm for a medical examination.
The vacuum leader lead was taken away by police so forensic experts could test it for DNA.
Detectives are also understood to have taken a statement from the witness to the killing.
A court has been placed in charge of the ongoing criminal investigation as they await a full police report and the results of the full post-mortem.

The British woman’s body was removed from the scene around 3am this morning.
Although detectives have not confirmed the dead woman and the detainee were both holidaymakers, local reports said the pair were spending a few days at the apartment where the crime occurred.
Two mobility scooters identical to the ones used by thousands of British holidaymakers and expats in the Costa Blanca resort, made famous by the likes of Madge in hit TV show Benidorm, were parked by the door to the flat where the crime occurred.
Well-placed sources said they believed the British woman strangled used it to get around while she was in the town.
The apartment was sealed up with police tape today.
A message on the blue and white tape across the door said in Spanish: ‘Police line. Do not cross.’
Asked for more details about the crime and the ongoing investigation, a spokesman for the National Police in Alicante, which covers Benidorm, said: ‘We can’t give out any more information for the time being.
‘It’s an ongoing investigation and therefore the National Police is not going to reveal anything else for the moment so as not to hamper that investigation.’
