This is the horrifying moment a mother was killed after a lift she stepped into plunged seven storeys down.
In heartbreaking footage, the woman’s husband can be seen in a desperate attempt to save her by trying to prise the doors of the lift open from outside.
The tragedy unfolded inside an 11-storey block in the Altaylilar district of Tarsus, in Turkey’s Mersin province, on September 30.
Pelin Yasot Kiyga had stepped into the lift after leaving her seventh-floor flat on her way to work.
The clip starts after the lift malfunctions, with her husband, 34-year-old Gokhan Kiyga trying to find a way to get the doors to unlock.
He is seen on his phone calling for help before desperately tugging at the lift’s button to reach her.
But the cabin suddenly jammed and moments later plummeted down the shaft along with the heavy concrete counterweights.
Kiyga injured his foot while frantically attempting to help his wife.

After her husband realised she was in trouble, he raced down the stairs in a desperate attempt to save her
At one point he can be seen holding his head in despair before racing down the stairs as he realises the worst.
Emergency crews including paramedics and police were dispatched within minutes.
Pelin was pulled out alive and taken to the district state hospital, but doctors were unable to save her.
The young mother, from Mersin, died from her injuries, leaving behind one child.
Police said they have spoken to 17 people as part of the investigation and arrested three suspects, among them the former company boss in charge of the lift, the current manager and the building site manager.
Residents later revealed in the block’s WhatsApp group that the lift had been faulty for more than a month before the accident.
The horrific incident in Tarsus is not an isolated case – a woman in a wheelchair was left fighting for her life after her arm became trapped in the doors of a lift at Dorchester House apartments in Washington D.C. in late September.
Firefighters freed her and she was rushed to hospital with life-threatening injuries as the elevator was shut down for checks.

In Mumbai earlier this year, a hydraulic car-lift collapsed inside a 21-storey tower under construction in Borivli, killing one worker and seriously injuring another after cables are thought to have snapped.
And in Colorado, tour guide Patrick Weier, 46, died at the Mollie Kathleen Gold Mine when a lift system suddenly dropped during a tour, trapping visitors underground until they were rescued.
Investigators later ruled the tragedy was caused by operator error rather than mechanical failure.
