Kim Kardashian announced on Friday that her documentary about her idol Elizabeth Taylor, will get a US release from Fox Nation after it was broadcast on the BBC last year.
The timing seems to be interesting.
The 44-year-old Skims founder shared her news on the same day that her longtime nemesis, Taylor Swift, dropped a song that also mentions the Hollywood Golden Age actress.
And some fans seemed to think Kardashian was trying to upstage Swift, 35.
One wrote on Reddit: ‘Kim knows what she is doing, she is trying to say she owns Elizabeth Taylor, not Missy Swift, we get it, we hear you KIM!’
Another shared on X: ‘Both Kim and Taylor talk Elizabeth Taylor on the same day, not a coincidence.’
Then there was this: ‘Same-day twist: As The Life of a Showgirl hits, Kim Kardashian reveals a 3-part Elizabeth Taylor doc titled Rebel Superstar, out Monday on Fox Nation. Swift even names a track ‘Elizabeth Taylor’. Strategy or shade? Whose take on Liz grabs the spotlight?’
However, a source has told Daily Mail that it was not up to Kardashian to announce the US docu news on Friday but rather it was decided by Fox Nation.

Kardashian and Swift have been at odds ever since Kanye West messed with Bad Blood crooner. Kim and Kanye were married from 2014 until 2022.
Daily Mail has reached out to Kardashian’s representative about the timing but did not hear back immediately.
On Friday it was announced that Fox Nation acquired the US rights to Kardashian’s docuseries Elizabeth Taylor: Rebel Superstar.
The series premiere on Fox Nation is October 6. The series includes the first-ever filmed interview with Taylor’s son, Chris Wilding, alongside interviews with Dame Joan Collins, Sharon Stone and Paris Jackson.
Kardashian, who conducted Taylor’s final interview in 2011, also appears in the series which she co-produced. The show already premiered last year on the BBC.
Swift sang about Taylor on her new album The Life Of A Showgirl. The the second song on the album is dedicated to Elizabeth, the late actress known for her roles in Cat On A Hot Tin Roof and Who’s Afraid Of Virginia Woolf.
In it, Swift appears to compare herself to the star as she asks her exes why they couldn’t handle the spotlight, before making numerous references to the perils of fame.
In one line, Taylor, who is known for leaving clues in the form of ‘Easter eggs’ for her fans in her songs, asks: ‘All the right guys / Promised they’d stay / Under bright lights / They withered away.’
She then goes on to ask: ‘Do you think it’s forever?’ – a line some have taken to be a reference to her now-fiancé, Travis Kelce, following their engagement.

Swift has frequently drawn attention to her admiration for Elizabeth over the years, including a nod to ‘Burton to my Taylor’ on her Reputation album in 2018.
The song hints towards Elizabeth’s own troubles in her romantic life, with eight marriages to seven different men.
Taylor sings: ‘Been number one, but I never had two’ – referring to their shared success in the world of showbusiness (implying a number one hit), but without a ‘two’ – a partner to share it with.
Frequent references to the untold hardships of life in the spotlight follow: Swift says ‘You’re only as hot as your last hit baby’ and ‘I would trade the Cartier for someone to trust’. Notably, she was seen wearing a Cartier watch during her engagement photos with Travis.
Other lyrics seem to confirm the comparison between Swift and Elizabeth once more – including references to ‘a view of Portofino’ in Italy and the Hotel Plaza Athénée in Paris.
Portofino has close ties to Elizabeth as Richard Burton even proposed to her at the Hotel Splendido in the city, where she also honeymooned several times.
Last year, Swift and Travis were spotted in Lake Como together, though it’s unclear if they visited Portofino, which is around a four-hour drive away.
She’s also said ‘Portofino Orange’ is the color of the Showgirl era, and also wore the bright shade frequently during the latter shows of the Eras tour, which wrapped last December.

In addition, the five star Hotel Plaza Athénée in Paris frequently hosted Elizabeth and Burton as guests.
More overt references to Elizabeth also include a nod to her famously ‘violet eyes’, while the ‘white diamonds’ lyric seems to point out the actresses’ 1991 fragrance of the same name.
Meanwhile, Swift’s plea to ‘be my NY when Hollywood hates me’ reflects the fact that both stars have owned property in the areas, and they have important significance in both their lives.
For Swift, New York City has popped up repeatedly through her discography, including White Horse (2008), Come Back… Be Here (2012) and Welcome To New York (2014).
Taylor’s feud with Kim and Kanye had been bubbling to the surface as early as 2009, seemingly out of the blue, when 19-year-old Taylor was at the MTV Video Music Awards, accepting the Best Female Video award for You Belong with Me.
Suddenly, in the middle of her acceptance speech, Kanye jumped on the stage, grabbed the microphone out of her hands and bellowed: ‘Yo, Taylor, I’m really happy for you and Imma let you finish, but Beyoncé had one of the best videos of all time. One of the best videos of all time!’
In a bid to diffuse the tension, Beyoncé later called Taylor up on stage when she won Video of the Year for Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It), and allowed the country music star a moment in the spotlight.

But the tension only continued when the father-of-four humiliated the star once again at the VMAs in 2015.
It appeared the pair were getting on as Kanye joked: ‘You know how many times they announced Taylor was going to give me the award ’cause it got them more ratings?’
However, Taylor later announced that his statement truly irked her, as he made out in public that it was for ratings, but in private, asked her to be on stage with him as it would ‘mean so much.’
Taylor later told Rolling Stone: ‘I’m standing in the audience with my arm around his wife, and this chill ran through my body. I realised he is so two-faced. That he wants to be nice to me behind the scenes, but then he wants to look cool, get up in front of everyone and talk s**t. And I was so upset.’
By February 2016 the tensions reached an explosive boiling point after Kanye referenced Taylor in the lyrics of his hit, Famous.
Taylor took offense at the rapper’s lyric: ‘For all my South Side n****s that know me best / I feel like me and Taylor might still have sex / Why? I made that b***h famous.’
The accompanying music video also depicted a naked Taylor lying in his bed next to him – along with a whole host of other celebrities – with nude Kim on the other side.

Kanye defended the line, claiming he had a conversation with Taylor about the lyrics in question ahead of time, which she denied.
Taylor continued to accuse Kanye of lying about asking her permission to reference her in his lyrics which prompted Kim to release a partial recording of the call in question. ‘I’m really glad you had the respect to call me that and tell me that as a friend, about the song. It’s just a really cool thing to do, and a really good show of friendship,’ Taylor is heard saying. Taylor hit back by claiming that although Kanye spoke through some aspects of the lyrics, she did not consent to being referred to as a ‘b***h.’
In December 2023, Taylor slammed Kardashian for ‘taking her down psychologically’ and forcing her into hiding during their long-running feud – while subtly branding the fashion influencer and her ex-husband Kanye ‘Ye’ West as ‘trash’.
The singer dished on the dispute which started when Kim’s then-husband wrote a 2016 song to include vulgar lyrics about the rising star.
He claimed Taylor had consented to the reference but, after denying it, Kim also weighed in and released what the popstar described as ‘an illegally recorded phone call’ between the pair which she claimed proved otherwise.
Taylor admitted that the public fallout said it felt like ‘a career death,’ adding: ‘Make no mistake — my career was taken away from me.’
Discussing the aftermath and the brutal toll that it took on her wellbeing, Taylor told the outlet: ‘You have a fully manufactured frame job, in an illegally recorded phone call, which Kim Kardashian edited and then put out to say to everyone that I was a liar.’
‘That took me down psychologically to a place I’ve never been before. I moved to a foreign country. I didn’t leave a rental house for a year. I was afraid to get on phone calls.’
Most of the pop icon’s next album Reputation, released in 2017, was aimed at her experience during the ordeal. But the abundance of snake imagery used in veiled reference to mom-of-four Kim only reignited the furor. ‘I thought that moment of backlash was going to define me negatively for the rest of my life,’ she explained. Yet, in the years that followed, Taylor’s career has only gone from strength to strength – while many of her adversaries have suffered major setbacks, including Kanye.
The rapper lost a slew of endorsement deals after a series of anti-Semitic remarks. Elaborating on how life in the limelight can be delicate, Taylor added: ‘Nothing is permanent. So I’m very careful to be grateful every second that I get to be doing this at this level, because I’ve had it taken away from me before.
‘There is one thing I’ve learned: My response to anything that happens, good or bad, is to keep making things. Keep making art.’
The feud has continued to rumble on ever since – with veiled jibes being made on both sides of the divide.
On her album The Tortured Poets Department, Swift reignited her feud with Kardashian. On the track thanK you aIMee, the Grammy award-winner sings of her apparent dislike for a mean school girl she refers to as ‘Aimee’ – who fans believe is actually Kim, as the letters K I M are capitalized in the song title. There appears to be no sign of it disappearing with the pair, arguably two of the most famous women alive, making no signs of amends.
