Teen filmed beating up elderly worker at rap concert to face justice

A 14 year-old boy who was caught on camera violently assaulting a terrified grandfather at a rap concert has been charged with assault. The teenager, who has not been named because he is underage, was slapped with a felony assault charge and one misdemeanor assault charge for allegedly beating Thomas Schlange.

The 66-year-old was attacked inside the T-Mobile Center in Kansas City at a NBA YoungBoy concert on September 21. He asked the juvenile to move to the correct seat during the performance when the teenager exploded in a fit of rage – throwing a barrage of punches at him. Footage captured of the brawl showed Schlange being speared to the ground over a chair by the youth.

The boy then closed in on Schlange with his fists clenched, Schlange attempted to try and put distance between himself and the boy who launched more punches. As he did, the crowd around the two erupted into screams as audience members tried to intervene in the frenzied attack. Eventually, the entitled boy was dragged away as Schlange was seen laying on the ground in a heap – having lost his glasses.

Speaking with Fox last week, Schlange said: ‘I mean it is serious; I went down and had blows to my head.’ Recalling the attack, he added: ‘Just getting him off, getting him off of me…because he was so enraged, so we were just, in essence, trying to protect the fans.’ Images taken of Schlange following the attack showed his face bloodied and bruised with a broken nose.

A GoFundMe page was set up last week by his grandson, it has since raised more than $12,000. Hearings in the case will be kept behind closed doors with state laws in Missouri also requiring the name of those in the juvenile justice system to be kept confidential. Robert McDaniel caught the disturbing attack on video while at the concert, he told the Daily Mail that concertgoers pointed the teen out to Schlange. He said: ‘He beat him up because his ticket was in another section, he broke his nose.

‘I’m trying to get these kids help. They are children. Not saying they are innocent, they don’t have logic or common sense. ‘We have an epidemic of these boys not being taught how to process through these emotions.’ Antonio Clayter was the man who stepped in and pulled the youth from Schlange. Speaking with Fox4 , Clayter said he couldn’t stand watching Schlange being hit while just trying to do his job. ‘Thomas is backing everybody back – he’s just doing his job telling everybody to clear the stairway and all of that and the kid just keeps coming down. ‘The kid just pushed him; he just [expletive] out and he pushed him. It wasn’t even a feeling; it was something that had to be done.

‘I have family members that are that age. This isn’t right. I was raised with morals and values. You can’t act like that, especially to our elders.’ A statement from officials in Jackson County said: ‘ The Juvenile Office of the 16th Judicial Circuit has filed one felony assault charge and one misdemeanor assault charge against a juvenile in connection with an incident at the T-Mobile Center on September 21, 2025. ‘Hearings in the case are not open to the public, and Missouri law requires the names of juveniles in the juvenile justice system to be confidential.’ Daily Mail approached Kansas City Police for further comment.
